The Seed Schools

Location: Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Miami, FL and Los Angeles, CA

Project Goals: Since 2000, Regan Associates has been the Owner’s Representative to the SEED Foundation and SEED’s network of free, public, college-prep boarding schools for at-risk students. Campuses serve between 300 and 400 students in grades 9-12 and they include academic, residential, and student-life spaces. The DC campus, first of its kind, was created on federal land and has an artificial-turf playing field on top of an underground stream. The Baltimore school is on 50 acres in west Baltimore and has a 900-seat theater. The Miami campus includes modular dormitories (modules were custom-built in a north-Florida factory, trucked to the site on 102 tractor-trailers and assembled into three separate two-story dorms totaling 48,000sf of space). The Los Angeles school, scheduled to open in 2022, will feature mid-rise construction in an urban neighborhood including a second-floor private student courtyard, a rooftop playing field, and outstanding views of the city.

Status: Washington, DC completed in 2002; Baltimore 2013, Miami 2020 and Los Angeles 2022 (projected)
